Can I use Canola oil to make fresh cake?

Hi Krishna, Yes you can if the recipe calls for oil to be used. Canola oil is rapeseed oil. Some recipes call for oil and some call for solid fats like butter suet or lard etc. If the recipe calls for solid fat then I would use that as you could run into trouble with the consistancy of your mix. A number of cakes are made by the ‘rubbing in’ method, this means as you may wll know that the fat is rubbed into the flour, this is where you might run into difficulties trying to rub oil into your flour mix. There are many recipes that you should be able to google using oil,but I would not try and convert one type of recipe/method to the other. I hope this helps, all the best.
