Can I use beach sand in my tropical fish tank?

Yes you can use beach sand. Most sand on the beaches is trucked in so in short it is sand you would buy from a construction yard. Secondly, the only problem with actualy beach sand is the amount of calcium in the sand from seashells. This will increase the ph in the tank. So you would need bog or drift wood or peat in the filter to counter act the effect. Wash it (the salt is dissolved and gone) No boiling not needed. Then you can use it. I use beach sand in my outdoor ponds. It counters the low ph of rain water.
