you sure can just paint on the suffuse or i like to use gesso base paint before painting

You should be fine. Remember that most household paints have some acrylic or similar in them anyway. However, be careful as plasterboard can be a bit brittle round the edges. Don’t finish a painting and send it anywhere without lots of protection. And yes – emulsion as a base coat should be ok.
