Can i use an old satellite box instead of a converter?

On One Hand: You Can Use An Old Satellite BoxMany of the older satellite set top boxes were equipped with OTA Digital TV, which means they can be used in place of a HDTV converter box. Any of the DIRECT TV non DVR HD receivers, other than the H10 and the H2X models, will work.On the Other: Look At The Specs To Make SureLook at the specs in the manual or search for it on line. If the STB decodes 480i only then it supports SDTV only and will not work in place of a converter box. But if it decodes 480i, 720p and/or 1080i then the box supports both SDTV and HDTV and will work in place of a converter box.Bottom LineMany old satellite boxes were equipped with OTA Digital TV and can be used instead of a converter. However, the old satellite box must decode 480i, 720p, and/or 1080i to support both SDTV and HDTV in order to work in place of a converter.
