Simple answer is ‘yes’ to the mi-fi and no to to a regular card. The mifi device creates your own wireless ‘hotspot’ allowing any authorized devices that are able to connect to the internet via a wireless router, to, well, connect to the internet. As the iPhone, iPod touch are capable of connecting to the internet via a mi-fi and given that the OS on the iPad is essentially the same, the iPad will also do the same. It is just a question of connecting wirelessly to the MiFi The second half of your question is a little more difficult. Given that there is no facility to plug a USB ‘modem’ into the iPad, the simple answer is ‘no’ However…… If you plug the verizon card into a PC, you can then share that connection, essentially turning your PC into a wireless router and sharing that connection. Hence technically it is possible to use a Verizon ‘card’ but given the additional hardware it is not practical. The MiFi route is very easy and very fast….
