Can I use a USB or flash drive to work on or transfer personal and/ or confidential GNL information?

0

When using a USB or flash drive to work on or transfer personal and/or confidential GNL information, employees must always use an encrypted USB or flash drive. USB / flash drives will be clearly labeled if it does have encryption. If you can not find the labeling, reference the product instructions for information on how to use the encryption feature. If you are still unsure if your device is encrypted do not use it to store or transport personal and/or confidential GNL information. Common and acceptable encrypted USB devices are offered by SanDisk, Lexar and Kingston. Encrypted USB flash drives can be safely used on GNL computers. You should never use the encrypted USB and/or flash drives to transfer personal and/or information to a public computer. The OCIO recommends that you only use properly protected computers when working on personal and/ or confidential GNL information and that once you are finished working on the files you delete temporary file cache on the computer.
