Can I use a steam cleaner or high pressure cleaner to clean paved areas?

The use of low flow high pressure cleaners or a garden hose to clean driveways or paved areas is not permitted under Permanent Water Conservation Measures. A permit must be sought for these activities. A permit is required whether you own and operate a cleaning business or are a homeowner wanting to perform these activities in and around your home. All restricted activities must also comply with all other relevant legislation, eg Environment Protection Agency and Department of Health Legislation. The new Environment Protection (Water Quality) Policy 2003 prohibits the disposal of a range of pollutants into the stormwater system. For more information on this policy visit the Environmental Protection Authority website or phone (08) 8204 2004.
