Can I use a mop and my wet/dry shop vac and save money?
Yes. I’ve tried cleaning my floors with a mop and pail and a small shop-vac with a squeegee attachment to vacuum up the water. It worked, but the process was a major nuisance. The hoses dripped the dirty water all over the floor, and the filter had to be thoroughly dried out so that it wouldn’t develop a mildew odor. Dragging the shop-vac around is clumsy. I tried this process only once and said never again. Are the expensive cleaning agents necessary? I found that a few drops of ordinary household liquid detergent (e.g. “Joy”, “Palmolive”) works just as well as the more expensive cleaning agents that are suggested by the manufacturer. I’ve used the sample cleaning solutions only once. At 2 ounces per tank, a large room can require a number of tanks of cleaning agent and water, the cleaning agents can become rather costly.
