Can I use a light yellow paint over a brighter shade of yellow?
The simple answer is yes you can use a lighter yellow to tone down the yellow you have already painted. I would suggest that you ALWAYS 2 coat when painting a new color over an old, regardless of the base color. This will insure a truer color and one that is most accurate to the one you chose off the color card. Most manufacturers now are advertising their paint as “one coat” or “single coat” coverage but that is just not accurate as you learned with covering the burgundy. If I were you I would select a new less bright yellow and 2 coat it as though you were starting fresh. Hope that helps and good luck!
