Can I upgrade the RAM on my IBM Lenovo IdeaPad Y510 Laptop?
It depends on what you have now. The Y510 normally comes with 2GB (a 1GB chip in each of two slots). The upgrades would to replace one or both of those 1GB chips with 2GB chips. Crucial sells the two-2GB upgrade (to 4GB) for $103.99. If you are not sure what you have now, go to Crucial.com and use their system scanner tool. That will tell you what you have installed and what upgrades are available. A 32 bit Windows Vista system won’t see all of that (normally it will see between 3 and 3.5GB depending on the configuration). But Vista is such a pig that maxing out memory is about the best/cheap performance enhancement. 4GB kit (2GBx2), 200-pin SODIMM, DDR2 PC2-5300 memory module (Crucial is a good name and it’s where I buy my memory but you can shop around and may be able to find this memory in other brands cheaper elsewhere.)
