Can I train my kittens to replace their litter box for a drain?
I doubt you could train them to use the drain. If you were able to teach your cats to use the drain, you would have a sanitation and odor problem. You would have to put enough water down the drain and often enough to insure that all of urine and feces are forced past the drain trap and into the main sewer line. You would have to “flush” the material out of the trap and into the sewer line. If you look under a sink, you will see a curved piece of pipe called a trap. It’s called a trap because it traps water. The purpose of this trap is to hold water at all times so that no sewer gases can come out of the sink drain. There is a trap on the drain in your basement floor – you just can’t see it because it is buried under the floor. If you had a cat urinate in the drain, the urine would mix with the water in the trap and pretty much just stay there and generate a very bad odor. The problem would be greater with the feces. They would stay in the drain and create an even worse odor than urine
