Can I train my 7-months old shih Tzu to use a litter box?
You can train your dog to use the litter box, although it is not recommended. Your dog needs clear directions…I pee inside, or I pee outside. Peeing in both places is very confusing. Being allowed to pee inside the house can confuse a dog. After all, is there that much difference between the litter box and that pile of magazines? To a dog…no. You will notice a delay in his potty training if you continue to allow him to pee inside. He may NEVER be fully potty trained. Can you get a dog walker to come let her out during the day? If not, I suggest getting a “litter box”. Keep it in the same place ALL THE TIME!! NEVER move it. Instead of taking her outside to potty; take her to her “box”, keep her in there until she potties (as you would if you were training outside). She should learn that the box is where I potty.
