NOT ceramic. Those will have to be removed. If vinyl composition, you can. Be sure they are not loose. They need to be sanded so as to remove dirt and to roughen the surface. This allows the new tile to adhere better. How old are the original tiles? If older than 30 years, there’s a good chance that they are vinyl Asbestos. If so, DO NOT SAND with an electric sander. You can spray lightly with water and hand sand. This will prevent airborne particles of asbestos. Remove the camode before installing new. You will not be able to cut around the camode satisfactorily. Buy a new wax seal when reinstalling the camode. Begin from the center of the bath floor. Do some accurate measuring to determine that fills along walls are not too small, like 1″ or thereabouts. Try to center so that the fills are as equal as possible along walls. If you begin at any wall, rest assured that the corners are not perfect 90 degrees. You’ll wind up with tiles at an angle. Strike a chalk line at the centers in ea
