Certain types of antidepressants can be taken with Phen/Traz or Phen/Pro. Others can not. The latter include SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors), examples of which are Paxil, Zoloft, Serzone, & Luvox. The reason is that these mediations, like Trazodone and Prozac, raise the level of available serotonin in the body and if too much serotonin is present, a condition known as “Sick Serotonin Syndrome” can occur. This condition is extremely difficult to diagnose and in the worst case can result in death. Other antidepressants know as MAOIs (Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors) also cannot be taken with Phen/Traz or Phen/Pro for similar reasons. Examples of this class include Parnate & Nardil.
