It is perfectly safe and legal to carry your ThermaCELL curling iron on a plane. The International Airlines Transport Assoc. (IATA) rules (paragraph 2.3.5.9) allow one butane curling iron per passenger in carry on or checked baggage. The only stipulations are that you do not use it during the flight, that it is in its case during the flight and that you do not carry spare cartridges. Hence, one curler with one cartridge attached to make a complete curling iron unit may be carried as mentioned above. It is not permitted to carry cartridges or refills that are not part of a curling iron. Changes in cabin pressure during flight will not effect ThermaCELL cartridges. They are manufactured and tested to meet ASTM (American Society For Testing and Materials) standards for pressure vessels of this type and size.
