Aidant is right, I spent 3weeks in China in Feb 2007 and i took yuan in and out of China. Nobody checks and you are allowed to take money in and out, just not too much money.

Hi, i am currently in china, you can bring yaun with you, I ordered mine from the local post office in the uk, order early in the morning and pick it up next day, i exchanged around £300, but am using c/cards for hotels etc. Hope this helps you.

you can bring in and out yuan in china but they impose a certain limit to bring yuan out of the country. the largest yuan bill is a hundred you can change your dollar or other currency at the hotel .
