You can put your SIM card in *any* compatible phone as long as the phone is not locked. A phone can be locked in three ways – to a group of providers, to a single provider, or to a specific SIM card. Usually, AT&T locks their phones so that only AT&T SIM cards can be used. Since your SIM card is AT&T and both phones will accept all AT&T SIM cards, you should have no problem in putting the SIM card in any other AT&T phone, including prepaid ones! In fact, if you can find an unlocked phone, even from another service provider, your SIM card will work there too! GSM is awesome.
