Can I swap in another manual transaxle like the MTX-75 or 76 from the SVT Focus or Contour?
The only other manual transaxle thought to be a direct bolt-on to the Tempo/Topaz is the MTX-4, used in V6 T/Ts and the V6 Taurus SHO. As previously mentioned though, the MTX 4 as found in the V6 equipped cars will not directly interchange with the MTX III that came in 4 cylinder vehicles. While we aren’t certain, the transaxles used in the Focus or Contour may / may not fit in the engine bay of a Tempo / Topaz. If they do and could be made to bolt up, a six-speed transaxle in a Tempo could become a reality.
