If you stop the payment, they may see that as you not fulfilling your obligation. In typical collector style…they accidentally (wink wink) forgot to include the ‘pay for delete/forgive portion….I suggest you let the 1st one go, they may get bent and start judical proceedings. I’d definetly jump on the amendment of the letter right away.

I would stop the payment until you get something in writing saying that once you comply, you are forgiven the debt. Believe me….having that in writing is worth its wait in gold.
