Can I stay in the home for a brief time after the lease expires in the event my future housing arrangements are not ready for move-in?
Legally, this is not permitted without the consent of the landlord. The legal term for this is called Holdover Tenant. Illinois State Law allows the landlord to charge rent at twice the normal rental rate. Also the tenant will be responsible for a full months rent even if they only holdover for a few days.
