Can I stay connected for ever?

No. If you leave your Remote Desktop window idle (i.e. you don’t touch your keyboard or mouse) for more than 30 minutes, your session will be disconnected. If you lose your connection, disconnect your session (by closing the Remote Desktop window) or allow it to time out, your account will be logged out after 10 minutes. This is necessary to in order to keep enough connections available for other people.
