During your first year, you will undertake some broad survey courses, covering Medieval, Early Modern and Modern history. The opportunity to specialise begins in Year Two, when you can select modules closer to your interests and choose a topic to work on a major piece of work in the form of a 5,000 word historiographical essay. In Year Three, this progresses further when you choose your topic for your dissertation, which is usually linked to your special subject. For an idea of the modules the School of History offers, please visit the university Module Catalogue.
