It’s technically not allowed, and maybe not super-classy, but plenty of people do it. Just put it in your checked luggage (that doesn’t generally get searched) and put it in plastic containers (mouthwash bottles seem to be popular) in plastic zip-lock bags (so if it breaks your clothes aren’t ruined). No need to bring actual water. The ship’s water is totally fine. And you are allowed to bring soda if you wish. That said, it’s not all that expensive onboard — around $2 a can, or $35 for a week-long all-you-can-drink card (on Carnival). If this is your first cruise, you might like the Know Before You Go guide, which talks about what to pack, how to stay healthy, when it’s better to book a shore excursion through the cruise line vs. independent, etc: http://www.cruisesavvy.com/node/934 Have a great trip!
