Can I set a limit on the number of external servers crawled?
Yes. The config variable named maxextservers inside the top-level control element for this. There is a variable named fetchlevel which supersedes this. Typically, you wont be setting the external server option directly, instead using fetchlevels to configure your download extents. This variable is explained in a different section of the FAQ.
