Can I self teach myself to play clarinet, or do I need a teacher?
If you already know how to play one instrument, you are way ahead of the curve of most people, since you know how to read music. And yes, common understanding of musical instruments says that clarinet and saxaphone are really close to one another. Franklin Ajaye, a comic and actor, was once on the Tonight Show years ago and talked about how he taught himself clarinet. He apparently picked one up one day and started fidlling around until he like the sound. He played there on the show…and was very good. And he had NO musical training before he started. I have played guitar for over 20 years, and have heard of “bad habits” that musicians can pick up. Yes, there are better hand positions than others, blah blah blah. For the most part, I think the whole bad habits mantra is a way for proffessional music teachers to justify their existence. If you ever watch proffesional musicians perform, most of them break a lot of rules, but they are still getting paid. So I guess the real question is,
