Can I see OHS adoption figures in the Asilomar format?
OHS and other organizations belonging to the Animal Shelter Alliance of Portland have adopted a common language that makes it easier to follow the progress made in adopting animals and reducing euthanasia. The new language includes a matrix of definitions reflecting how the community believes shelter animals should be treated. The basis for the definitions is the standard of care that a reasonable and caring individual would provide. This can be a very different level of care from what individual shelters can feasibly or even realistically provide. Gathering statistics using the community standard offers a look at animal issues from a community standpoint, not from the perspective of what an individual shelter can or can’t do.
