Can I “ScotchGuard” or waterproof a sheepskin seat cover ?
A – Not successfully and generally not necessary anyway. The manufacturers and commercial users of these sort of waterproofing products all have offered a similar opinion that the process wouldn’t work well [if at all], and the aerosol spray packs that can be purchased would be next to useless for this material. These waterproofing chemicals and processes need to be able to encase each individual fibre thoroughly and entirely for the treatment to work. Sheepskin fibres are packed too densely to be encased thoroughly or entirely. Any aerosol spray used could only sit on the top of the seat cover [and may make the sheepskin slippery to sit on too]. New sheepskin has a small amount of natural resistance to light shower/rain and often will just sit on top until you can carefully wipe it dry. A heavy rain will soak through just about everything anyway. Least you need to know :- You would be wasting your time and money to try to waterproof sheepskin [but hey! it’s your money and time].
