CAN I SCAN SHEET MUSIC TO MAKE A MIDI FILE?
Yes, there’s software that will do this, and it can do it quite well in some cases! But it isn’t perfect, just as OCR (Optical Character Recognition) isn’t perfect, and this means you will have to do some, or a lot, of editing afterwards. The best of this software seems to have developed to the point that the quality (clarity and size of notes) and alignment of the sheet music during scanning is the major deciding factor in final conversion quality. Tiny, scrunched up notes on a page misaligned on the scanner bed will produce very poor results while “Standard” sized published sheet music, well aligned, will produce excellent results.
