Can I run Oracle 9i RAC and Oracle RAC 10g in the same cluster?
YES. However Oracle Clusterware (CRS) will not support a Oracle 9i RAC database so you will have to leave the current configuration in place. You can install Oracle Clusterware and Oracle RAC 10g into the same cluster. On Windows and Linux, you must run the 9i Cluster Manager for the 9i Database and the Oracle Clusterware for the 10g Database. When you install Oracle Clusterware, your 9i srvconfig file will be converted to the OCR. Both Oracle 9i RAC and Oracle RAC 10g will use the OCR. Do not restart the 9i gsd after you have installed Oracle Clusterware. With Oracle Clusterware 11g Release 2, the GSD resource will be disabled by default. You only need to enable this resource if you are running Oracle 9i RAC in the clsuter. Remember to check certify for details of what vendor clusterware can be run with Oracle Clusterware. For example on Solaris, your Oracle 9i RAC will be using Sun Cluster. You can install Oracle Clusterware and Oracle RAC 10g in the same cluster that is running Sun
