In theory, yes. In practice, there were several different cards used in the DEC drives’ interface modules as opposed to the corresponding CDC drives. The effort to convert from the DEC configuration to the CDC configuration does not justify the results, as used CDC 97xx series drives are available for a few hundred dollars (as of this writing in 1990.
