Yes, inradisk was especially designed for this kind or operation! The integrated hard drive will be switched to stand by after an idle time of about 20 minutes, it will stop spinning to save power. External USB drives can not do this! As backup, media server or data archive, that will access and spin the drive for only about 2,400h per year, there is no limitation. The mentioned 2,400h per year actually conforms to the average operating time of a standard PC.
