Can I resize the Photobook Designer interface and zoom in on the task at hand?

Sure. You can expand or shrink (even hide) parts of the interface by selecting View on the menu bar, then selecting the feature you wish to open or close. The only panel you may not close is the main page layout panel. To zoom in and out: • Select the page you want to magnify or shrink on your screen. • Click the Zoom buttons toward the plus or minus sign, until the page appears as big or small as you want on your screen. You can also use Control + and Control – on a PC, or Command + and Command – on a Mac, to zoom in and out.
