No, you cannot. Even if you format the hard disc, the file numbers are assigned as before, as its meta data is still stored in the management files. To reset the file number of still images, you need to select [HOME] -> [SETTINGS] -> [PHOTO SETTINGS] -> [FILE NO.] -> [RESET].
