Not sure how rumors like, “proprietary motherboards and power supplies” got started, but it’s hogwash. Dell doesn’t make their own power supplies or motherboards. I have an Inspiron 530 that’s 4 months old. I changed the power supply (ATX) and it was made in China by a company called AcBel. Before I replaced mine, I considered getting a Dell compatible psu, til I saw that they were ATX. This link is for a Dell compatible psu, if you click on MB Compatibility, it lists over 60 Dell systems that psu will fit in.
