Can I replace a processor or do I have to buy a new PC?

Since you are running a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 which is what I presume from the 2.4 GHz clock, Your socket is currently and LGA775 socket, so you should have no problem upgrading to a 3.0 GHz or 3.4 GHz Quad Core. Just remember to go to the Asus website, and download the most recent BIOS and flash and install the new BIOS, they are instructions in your manual, or download the manual from the Asus website, but you should be perfectly fine to upgrade to another LGA775 Quad Core processor. But I have to assure you that your software is telling you wrong, the speed should be saying 3.0 not 3.4, and the only Quad Core on the market is a Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 3.0GHz, now unless you get a separate heat sink for the CPU and Overclock it to 3.4. But you really shouldn’t need that much, it should run perfectly on 3.0. Here is the link for the BIOS for your P5B, please update to P5B BIOS V2001 http://suppor
