Can I reheat a bottle of breast milk and rice cereal?
Rice cereal is not sterile. Rice cereal will counteract the positive qualities of breastmilk that keep it safe on the counter for 12 hours. I would not reheat a bottle of breastmilk and cereal at all. Seriously, it’s a bad idea to mix them both. Your daughter literally lacks the enzyme it takes to digest the cereal at this point. It will clog up her system. It truly is a choking hazard, a danger to her lungs, and heightens her susceptibility to develop allergies. Babies are born with an innate stopping sense for eating. They self-regulate, only taking in what they need to: no excess, no deficit. Cereal in a bottle bypasses baby’s natural stopping point–it teaches babies to overeat. Cereal in a baby bottle is a leading cause of childhood and adult obesity in this country (not to mention that cereal in a bottle has been tied to diabetes and Crohn’s disease.)
