Can I receive payment for travel to medical services (non-emergent medical transportation (NEMT) services)?
NEMT services can only be approved for services covered by Medicaid. NEMT services are covered if no other ride is available only for the following people: • KAN Be Healthy participants • Pregnant Women (for pregnancy related services only) • People going for renal dialysis, psychiatric medicine checks, or cancer therapy. • People receiving medical treatment more than 50 miles one way or 100 miles round-trip with documentation from your doctor stating medical necessity. You should: • Get approval before the trip from the Medicaid program or your Managed Care Organization (MCO)(non-commercial providers). Your MCO will have instructions for you to follow. • Go to the nearest facility to receive the needed service/treatment • Keep track of mileage (for non-commercial providers) • Log mileage ONLY when the member is in the vehicle • Return paperwork to the Medicaid program for payment • Contact a local commercial NEMT provider for transportation.
