Can I receive British citizenship if my dad was born in England but is not a British citizen?

The UK does not recognize renounciations of citizenship made in other countries. So unless he formally applied to the UK to renounce his citizenship he is a UK citizen still. An example would be he just swore allegiance to say Canada and the US and said he renounces his previous citizenship. It does not matter as he could just apply for his citizenship at a UK emabassy. You might be able to apply just based upon having his birth certificate. But the easiest way to go about it would be that he gets a new UK passport and apply based on that. With that you basically automatically qualify for a UK passport. I read all of the UK laws here and there on and off for years (my mother is English) but the laws were confusing. My mother had gotten US citizenship, renounced and just went and got a new UK passport years before. I finally just applied figuring that if I got denied at least I would know why and have a starting point. 6 weeks later my passport just arrived. Though I understand that now
