Can I receive a stipend through an AmeriCorps program AND also earn Federal Work-Study wages?

It is not possible for a Federal Work-Study (FWS)student to receive a living allowance (stipend) through an AmeriCorps program AND also earn FWS wages. AmeriCorps does have a program, however, called the Education Award Program, where a student can receive a stipend from FWS while at the same time earning an AmeriCorps Education Award for completing a certain number of community service hours. The FWS stipend covers the student’s living allowance with a minimum of 300 hours of community service required. AmeriCorps provides the Education Award. The maximum Education Award a student can earn is $1000 ($4,725 for a full year of service). Along with this amount, up to $400 per full-time equivalent is also available to assist with program costs. Note: The “Education Award” is competitive. Students need to apply to their State Commission for National and Community Service or directly to the Corporation for National and Community Service.
