Can I put some sort of protectant on bamboo to help it keep its color?

A. If it’s going to be used indoors, bamboo keeps it’s color without the need of a stain or sealer. Outdoors, at first there is very little you can do to preserve it. It must weather approx. 6 months to a year at which point it will begin to gray. The outside skin will then be able to absorb a water sealer or stain. Oil based stains work the best. Clean thoroughly before treating with a fence or deck sealer.
