Can i put down freelance design on a resume?
Absolutely, freelance work definitely counts towards practical experience but the key to making this work is to show some of the work you did while you were a freelance designer. If copyright issues prevent this, then a client listing of who you did work for can go a long way towards establishing not only your credentials but your work ethic. Expending the effort to find new clients while you were working and/or going to school, raising a family, traveling (you get the idea) shows a level of commitment to your craft that speaks volumes about you. Don’t be afraid to show this, just don’t embellish it. You may find a prospective employer asks if they can contact a client or two so you want to make sure you’ve provided them with real tangible examples of the people you did work for. Good luck!
