Can i put a turbo charger on a Subaru Leon 1985 1800 cm3 carburator engine ?
Yes, however it presents some special problems due to the carburetor. Either you will have to mount the turbo so that it “sucks” through the carb and discharges directly into the intake manifold, or construct an air tight enclosure for the carb and mount the turbo so it “blows’ through the carb. The first option prevents the use of an inter-cooler, limiting boost to seven pounds or less. It also make the engine hard to start. The early Mustang and T-bird used this method and many owners were unhappy with how hard they were to start in cold weather. The second option would allow the use of an inter-cooler. It might be easier to just replace the engine and transmission with a newer set up that is already turbocharged.
