Can I pursue Doctoral level studies after completing an Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology?
Most doctoral programs in Canada are research-oriented PhD programs. These programs typically are looking for graduates of thesis-based, research-oriented masters programs. Since our program is neither thesis-based nor research-oriented but rather is practitioner-oriented and course-based, it is not the appropriate avenue for PhD studies at traditional Canadian Universities. While some of our graduates have been successful in enrolling in PhD programs, the PsyD is a more appropriate path. Our program does prepare students for doctoral studies in PsyD programs, which are practitioner-oriented doctoral programs.
