Can I purchase health insurance if I serve part-time in the Delaware Air National Guard?

Yes; as of Oct. 1, 2007 qualified National Guard and Reserve part-time members may purchase a premium-based health plan named TRICARE Reserve Select (http://tricare.mil/mybenefit/home/overview/Plans/ReserveSelect). Effective Jan. 1, 2009 TRICARE reduced the rate for TRICARE Reserve Select (TRS). Monthly premiums for TRS Individual Plan coverage dropped 44 percent from $81 to $47.51, and TRS Family Plan coverage dropped 29 percent from $253 to $180.17. This option is for people who are not enrolled in a civilian health plan, or who want to compare costs to see if military service makes them eligible for a more affordable health plan. If you qualify, you may purchase TRS coverage to begin in any month throughout the year.
