Can I prefill insulin syringes?
Home health nurses pre-fill syringes all the time, for people who can’t see well enough or are unable to draw insulin up for themselves for whatever reason. They usually do 1 week at a time. It is required by nurses to label, usually by writing the medication and dose on a piece of tape and wrapping it around the syringe like a flag in a spot that wont obscure the plunger, so someone else could see how much is drawn up if necessary. You could put the day and time each dose is to be given, so if he doesn’t remember whether or not he gave it he could just look at the labels. My husband can’t remember if he takes his pills so he puts them in a pill minder and just has to look for that day and time. Works well, as long as he remembers to look at the minder.
