Can I plant raspberry/blackberry and current bush cuttings straight to soil?

Blackberry plants will grow shoots from the roots around the mother plant. Just dig those babies up and transplant. Another way is to bury a stem leaving the tip end sticking out. It will root, then you can cut this off the mother plant and relocate it to a better spot. You may dig up a root from the mature plant and cut in six inch pieces. The root should be about the size of a pencil. Bury this and some of them will send up new plants. Be careful not to dig up too much of the mother plant roots. I prefer to buy named varieties from a nursery. They are not too expensive and you will get berries much sooner. It is illegal to propagate patented plants, so be informed.

It might work with the blackberry (which is pretty much a weed and can take all sorts of abuse), but if you want to be on the safe side, take the cuttings, root them in potting soil, and then plant them after they’ve established root systems.
