Yes to both although I would stick to snowdrops. They are neat little clump formers and won’t take over the window box unlike bluebells. Do not forget that both snowdrops and bluebells prefer some shade so do not use them if your window box is in full sun. Why not plant the snowdrops with something like Scilla sibirica or crocus? They both like similar conditions and the Scillas are available in blue but much better behaved. They also die down neatly unlike bluebells. For the summer you could plant bedding over the top of them to give you colour all year round. http://www.wildchicken.com/nature/garden… As for compost a mix of John innes and multi would be good. You need a rich but free draining compost.
