Can I participate on the catch-and-release days even after I’ve harvested a paddlefish?
A. Yes. Any angler who has purchased a paddlefish tag for the same area where they participate in the catch-and-release season is eligible to participate, even if they’ve already harvested a fish. Keep your ALS (Automated Licensing System) receipt or your fishing license as proof of purchasing a paddlefish tag in case you’re contacted by a game warden. Q. Why is FWP eliminating night fishing? A. Allowing snagging from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. provides a long day of fishing opportunity. Eliminating most night fishing for paddlefish is intended to reduce the potential illegal harvest of paddlefish and make enforcement of the regulations more manageable. Q. Why is FWP offering an archery season for paddlefish? A. The archery-only season in the Dredge Cuts was requested by a number of bowfishers who have not been able to pursue paddlefish in years when the harvest quota on the Yellowstone/Lower Missouri season was reached.
