Yes. Contact the IT Help Desk at 202-885-2550, helpdesk@american.edu, or AskAmericanUHelp to request that your account be migrated back to the AU-hosted servers. NOTE: if you choose to opt out of the AU-sponsored Gmail service, you will not be able to forward your AU e-mail to an external address any longer. If you want to forward your e-mail to another address, you should configure your account to forward your e-mail.
