Can I open the desktop calendar client without seeing the In-tray?

Yes, After opening the desktop calendar click on Tools>Options>General>Startup. In the In-Tray Start-up section, click on Do not open In-tray. Click on OK. The next time you open the desktop calendar and every time you open the calendar (until you change your options) the in-tray will not appear.
